Quality Campaign Teacher Education

The “Quality Campaign Teacher Education” is based on the idea to guarantee the continuous improvement of German teacher education. Therefore the Federal Government and the Länder have launched this joint programme, as a funding competition scheme to strengthen initial teacher preparation and raise the attractiveness of teaching.  The Campaign is based on the federal-state agreement of April 12, 2013, which was decided by the Joint Science Conference (GWK).
The Federal Ministry of Education and Research formulated funding guidelines from this, which were published on July 24, 2014. All universities that offer teacher education in Germany were able to submit funding concepts for the "Qualitätsoffensive Lehrerbildung". The universities should demonstrate in their funding applications how they want to improve the quality of teacher education at universities, how they strengthen the university's profile and how processes are supported and sustainably secured. The federal states and the universities also undertook to guarantee the mutual recognition of teaching-related study and examination achievements, access to the preparatory service and all graduates of a preparatory service for a teaching post to ensure professional access for the type of teaching post corresponding to their degree.
